Press Release: Highlands Council preserves unique Hunterdon County orchard - (1/28/2019) The Highlands Council recently completed a preservation project that permanently protects 93 acres in Alexandria Township, Hunterdon County. The property consists primarily of forested and agricultural lands, with apple orchards and a cider mill that produces “Newark cider,” a traditional form of hard cider using native apple varieties unique to New Jersey. Press Release: Highlands Council to Protect 13 Priority Preservation Properties - (1/22/2019) At its January 17 meeting, the Highlands Council approved $2.6 million in funding to complete several preservation projects through its Open Space Partnership Funding Program (OSP). (read)

Request for Proposals to Develop a Regional Interactive Environmental Resource Inventory - (1/14/2019) The Highlands Council is soliciting proposals to develop an Interactive Environmental Resource Inventory ("ERI"). Complete proposals, including Qualifications Submittal, Technical Proposal, and Rate Schedule & Budget, must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. Friday March 1, 2019. Public Notice: Hearings Scheduled and Public Comment Open on Redevelopment Area Designation Procedures - (12/14/2018) The Highlands Council has scheduled six public hearings and opened a public comment period to solicit comments on draft Redevelopment Area Designation procedures. A copy of the draft procedures and the public notice, as well at the meeting schedule are available on the "RMP Amendments" page of this site. The public comment period closes February 11, 2019. Press Release: Highlands Council awarded over $4.5 million for preservation projects - (12/11/2018) The Highlands Council has been awarded a $4,675,000 grant from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service for preservation projects in the New Jersey Highlands region. This grant represents the largest single-year award ever made through the federal Highlands Conservation Act grant program. (read)

Highlands Council preservation project helps nonprofit connect kids with nature - (11/7/2018) The Highlands Council has announced the preservation of more than 36 acres in Passaic County, on the property of Camp Vacamas, home of the nonprofit organization, Hands In 4 Youth (HI4Y). (read)

NJDEP, Highlands Council and Nonprofit Partners Preserve more than 2,200 acres - (10/10/2018) The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, New Jersey Highlands Council and nonprofit partners today announced a $5.1 million agreement preserving more than 2,200 acres of picturesque woodlands in Sussex County.
